BIM is a multi-dimensional model information integration technology developed based on the original CAD technology in recent ten years. At present, the development of BIM in China is still in the primary stage and mainly concentrated using on design stage while the depth is limited. Most application of BIM is still aimed at building three-dimensional models, which is far from the expected basic goal of improving work efficiency and quality and reducing errors and risks in the whole life cycle of buildings. In order to make the construction project more effectively promote the application of BIM in the design stage, this paper analyzes the practical operation ideas of BIM in the design stage on the basis of sorting out the application concepts of BIM by all parties, and analyzes and summarizes the existing problems, so as to optimize the existing design and technical management process.
