The phenomenon of land subsidence in the plains of the Pearl River Delta(PRD) is causing serious problems at present and posing a threat to the safety of people's lives and property. Therefore, the genetic mechanism of land subsidence in the PRD is an important issue that is worth studying. This study collected land subsidence monitoring data, a large number of geotechnical engineering investigation reports and test data, and other statistics to determine the physical and mechanical properties of soft soil and the distribution characteristics, and to analyse the relationship between the thickness of soft soil and land subsidence rate. It established a regression equation to examine the effects of the return to a significant degree, which showed that land subsidence in the area is closely related to the soft soil, and that the thickness of soft soil and sedimentation rate assume the power function relationship. The findings provide a basis for the study of soft soil type land subsidence in the PRD plains.
