Neuroinflammation is the earliest pathological event in a model of vascular cognitive impairment. Astrocytic end-feet degenerate along the same time-course as the microhemorrhage occurrence. Cognitive impairment progresses along the same time-course as the astrocytic end-foot degeneration and microhemorrhages.
