Two polyoxometalates [(Cu-mbpy)₄(HPO₄)₂(H₂O)₂][PMo₁₂O₄₀]路H₂O (1) and [(Cu-mbpy)₆(HPO₄)₄][PW₁₂O₄₀]路4H₂O (2) (mbpy=4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridyl in 1; 5,5鈥?dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridyl in 2) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, X-ray powder diffraction, TG analysis and electrochemical property. The structural features of 1-2 are in their cationic moieties consisting of different linkages of [Cu-mbpy]²⁺ and HPO₄^{2鈭?/sup> groups. In 1 four Cu-mbpy bridged by two HPO₄2鈭?/sup> ions form a discrete cluster with an interesting octahedron of {Cu₄P₂}, while in 2 Cu-mbpy fragments are bridged by HPO₄2鈭?/sup> ions into 1D structure consisting of trigonal bipyramidal polyhedra of {Cu₃P₂}. Photocatalytic experiments indicate that compounds 1 and 2 are actively photocatalytic for degradation of methyl orange in the presence of H₂O₂ under UV light irradiation.}
