Dinosaur Tracks in Vertical Sections from the Upper Cretaceous Jiaguan Formation of Emei, Sichuan Province
详细信息
摘要

Here we describe dinosaur tracks identified from the vertical sections of the middle part of Jiaguan Formation at Emei City, Sichuan, China in the Upper Cretaceous. These tracks are shown in the red medium- and thinly-bedded siltstones and fine-grained sandstones. The tracks are in well- preserved forms with typical characters and con- centrative distributions. Three morphotypes of dinosaur tracks are discriminated according to their shape and size in vertical sections. They are the axe-shaped tracks, disk-shaped tracks and bowl- shaped tracks respectively. The axe-shaped tracks are large in size and they are characterized by bila- teral asymmetry, wide and deep zone of deforma- tion, and slightly oblique infilling cast. The disk- shaped tracks are comparatively small in size and shallow in depth and have approximate bilaterally symmetric shape. The bowl-shaped tracks are the smallest size in the three types of tracks and are bilaterally symmetric in shape. These three types of dinosaur tracks can provide useful information for studying three-dimensional morphologies of di- nosaur tracks and deformation of substrata around them, and also enrich the morphologies and preserved types of dinosaur tracks in the Upper Cretaceous.
