Starting with the importance and
    necessity of inversion study of source rupture process and a brief review of
    its history, this paper expounds several main methods of inversion study, analyzes
    their respective strengths and weakness and discusses the their prospect, and
    finally concludes that the joint inversion study based on seismic wave data and
    various other data, in particular the geodesic survey data（InSAR and GPS）, would be the future
    trend of the inversion study of source rupture process.
