This paper deals with background information and study history of san delta as well as basic characteristics of such three classical models as Jamaica, Alaska and Gilbert models and advances in study of san delta abroad. These advances include influence of tectonic subsidence, eustacy and fault activity on fan delta sedimentation, establishment of such two new fan delta sedimentation models as in large Gilbert fan delta from shelf to slope and Gilbert fan delta superimposed on active fault, study of pebble tongue in foreset bed, special imbricate structure and large trough cross bedding, establishment of fan delta facies reservoir model and so on.
