Application of ArcGIS in Prediction of Iron Ore Resources in the Western Segment of East Kunlun:A Case Study of Sedimentary Metamorphic-type Iron Deposits

Combined with various prospecting approaches such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry and remote sensing etc. , a comprehensive model of regional information mineral prediction was established in this study using the multi information discovery, extraction, transformation and association, and comprehensive techniques. The model is used to conduct the quantitative assessment for mineral resources, being one of the important prospecting ways in the field of mineral resources exploration. Starting from the geological background and 7 known sedimentary metamorphic-type iron deposits occurrences in the study area, and combined with field check analysis, this paper established the metallogenic model and the favorable extraction model. The spatial database of the study area was built based on the ArcGIS platform. Multi-information was employed to assess ore-controlling factors and three prediction factors were determined, sedimentary strata, favorable geochemical anomalies Fe elements, and favorable geophysical anomaly the original plane. Based on the spatial relationship of three layers of evidence and superimposing relation of known iron mineralization or prospects, the evidence weight model and weighted logistic regression model were used to evaluate metallogenic possibility. Remote sense alteration information was used to narrow the prospecting scope, and three prospect areas for sedimentary metamorphic-type iron deposits were delineated. Research results show that the western segment of the East Kunlun has a good prospecting future.
