This paper deals with sedimentary characteristics of the Lower Cretaceous McMurray Formation in Athabasca, Canada based on sedimentary petrology, sedimentary facies and logging data and previous study. Deposits of fluvial facies, delta facies and littoral facies were developed in the McMurray Formation, showing a relatively ascending eustacy. The middle and lower sequence in west is characterized by fluvial facies, while the upper is characterized by littoral-estuarine-delta facies, showing a southeastward transgression.
