This paper systematically searched for the research papers on shale gas in Chinese, analyzed the distribution characteristics of these over one hundred papers, summarized the research units, research groups and foundation sponsorships, etc. involved in shale-gas researches, reviewed the current status of shale-gas researches in China, and probed into the trend and development necessity of shale-gas researches in the future. The results showed that firstly, shale-gas papers in Chinese are characterized by a limited number and a typical distribution of the initial research, indicating infancy for both the basic research and the exploration and development. Secondly, comprehensive analyses of geological conditions, reservoir elements and specific conditions of oil-gas provinces indicated that the southern region of the oft-com:office:smarttags" />Sichuan Basin is more likely to be the first pioneering experimental area for shale-gas exploration and development in China. Thirdly, the shale-gas research in China will develop rapidly, end the exploring stage soon and trend to the commercial development progressively provided that the policy fostering and fund support are available.oft-com:office:office" />
