扩充的格位理论与汉语相关句法现象研究

摘要
格位理论是模组化了的生成语法理论体系中多个模块之一,其理论概括最为成熟、研究成果也最为丰富。自从生成语法理论引入汉语研究以来,学者们运用该理论模块取得了丰硕的成果。但是该理论在现代汉语语法研究中并没有得到广泛的应用,原因之一就是学界往往只熟悉Chomsky (1981)提出来的经典的格位理论(Case Fitter),而对该理论的重要发展——扩充的格位理论(The Generalized Case Filter)(Xu1993/2003)关注不够,而后者恰恰可以为现代汉语中的某些特殊句式提供很好的思考和解释。
本文回顾了“格”的来龙去脉：从传统语法的形态格,到格语法中的语义格,再到格位理论中的句法格,然后以扩充的格位理论为基础研究了现代汉语中的几种特殊句式。本文的结论是：诸如现代汉语中的保留宾语句、体词谓语句、连动句、兼语句等所谓的特殊句式,都是经由扩充的格位理论跟其他相关理论共同作用的结果。具体结论陈述如下：
(1)保留宾语句(“王冕死/被杀了父亲”)与其同义结构(王冕的父亲死/被杀了)有着不同的D-结构——“死／被杀了王冕父亲”与“死/被杀了王冕的父亲”。后者由名词短语(NP)“王冕的父亲”受“格驱动”整体移位至句首直接生成：前者是“王冕父亲”受“格驱动”前移至句首生成中间状态句“王冕父亲死/被杀了”,“王冕”获得“父亲”指派的所有格,“父亲”获得谓素Ic指派的主格后，受语用因素(“遭受义”及“焦点突出”)的影响“漂移”(scrambling)至句末。本文较好地解决了之前研究中存在的诸如“的”字的隐现、保留宾语的格位、英汉的差异、句首名词的格位、领属关系的确定等问题。
(2)形名结构做谓语的结构(“这棵树大叶子”)是以形容词为中心的结构而不是真正的体词谓语句’。这一论断不仅很好地解释了该结构与其他结构的相关性,也可以很好地化解之前研究中存在的勉强和悖论。
(3)在Pulmutter (1978)的“非宾格假设”(Unaccasutive Hypothesis)基础上依据句法特征重新厘定了现代汉语中的非宾格句法现象,提出“非宾格谓词”(Unaccusative Predicate)解释了体词谓语句(“这棵树大叶子”)与保留宾语句(“王冕死了父亲”)拥有一系列共同句法特征的原因,深化了我们对现代汉语非宾格句法现象的认识。
(4)在扩充的格位理论的基础上,结合语言事实提出了“格位释放序列原则”(Case Release Sequence Principle, CRSP),并以此解释了现代汉语以及其他语言中连动句存在的理据,统一分析了现代汉语连动句的句法结构。所谓的“连动”只是一种表面现象,即表面上看起来是动词连用的句子,其实是动词之间存在一个没有语音形式却有着句法作用的空语类PRO造成的假象。跨语言事实说明,连动句并不是现代汉语的特殊句式。
(5)现代汉语兼语句(NP1+VP1+NP2+VP2)中存在空成分PRO。所谓的“兼语”是语义解释代替句法解释的结果,“兼语”是VP2前的空主语PRO与NP2同指造成的假象。兼语句不是现代汉语的特殊句式,该句式应并入连动句,这样处理有多方面的理论优势。
(6)不同语言中的连动句(含兼语句)的共性和个性都是由扩充的格位过滤器(GCF)和格位释放序列原则(CRSP)共同作用的结果；在此基础上重新审视了现代汉语中是否存在限定式和非限定式之争,认为汉语中存在两者的区分。
As one of the module theories in the system of the generative grammar, Case Theory has received the most generalization and research. Especially, when it has been introduced to the research on the syntax of modern Chinese, a fruitful achievement has been completed by researchers and scholars. But the Case Filter has not been widely and fully adopted in the research on modern Chinese, one possible reason is that those researchers and scholars are only familiar with the classic Case Theory (Chomsky1981), and they do not pay much attention to the development of this theory, that is, the Generalized Case Filter (Xu1993). It is the Generalized Case Filter that supplies a better rational and explanation for some special construction in modem Chinese.
"Case", Irom the morphologiFal Fase in the traGtion grammar, the semantiF Fase in the Fase grammar, to the syntactic Case in the Case theory, is recalled and summarized in details at the beginning of this dissertation. Based on this, the author studies some special constructions in modern Chinese. The conclusions of this dissertation are:the so-called special constructions, such as the retained object construction, the substantive predicate construction, the serial verb construction and the bi-constituent construction, are generated by the combination of the Generalized Case theories and other relevant theories. The detailed statements are as follow:
1. Chinese retained object construction and its synonymous construction are derived from two different a-structures respectively:"si/Eeisha le:ang Mian IXTin" anG"si/Eeisha le:ang Mian Ce IXTin". The latter is generateGthroXgh the movement oI the entire noXn phrase ":ang Mian Ge IXTin"(: ang Mian's lather) Given Ey the Case to the initial position oI the sentenFe, while the Iormer's derivation undergoes two steps, firstly, its constitXent, the noXn phrase ": ang Mian IXTin"(:ang Mian's lather) moves to the initial position oI the sentenFe Given Ey the Case anGgenerates ":ang Mian IXTin si/Eeisha le"(: ang Mian's lather GeG/was killeG), anGthen the FonstitXent "IXTin"(lather) scrambles to the end of the sentence driven by pragmatical factors. In this way, we can provide a better explanation of the unsolved problems before, sXFh as the GsappearanFe oI "Ge", the Case assignment of the obtained object, the differences between English and Chinese, the Case assignment of the kmin the front position of the sentence, the testification of the possessive relationship and so on.
2. The AGj-1oXn FanstrXFtion XseGas the preGFation (lor example,"zhe ke shX Ga ye zi") is not a real substantive predicate construction, but an adjective-central construction. This conclusion can not only explain the correlation of the construction and other construction, but also defuse the paradox of the former explanation.
3. The substantive predicate construction ("zhe ke shu da ye zi") and the obtained object construction ("Wang Mian si le fu qin") share a series of characteristics. Based on "the unaccusative hypothesis" of Pulmutter (1978) and the syntactical features, the author re-describes the unaccusative syntactic phenomena in modern Chinese, and widened the category of "unaccusative" to the external of the verb, that is, the "unaccusative predicate", which is used to explain these two constructions. By doing this, he tries to help us achieve a fully understanding of the unaccustive syntactic phenomena in Chinese.
4. qhis paper reclassifies the Perial s erb Construction (PS C) from the perspectives of meaning, form and function. Based on the d eneralized Case c ilter and the linguistic facts, the author puts forward "Case Release Sequence Principle (Co Pm), which can be used as the motivation of the existence of Ps C in modern Chinese and some other languages as well. All the ps C in Chinese are analyzed in great detail, which shows that all the Ps C in modern Chinese can be explained in the same way in the dissertation, fts conclusion is that Ps C is just a superficial phenomenon which is caused by mo1before the second s m,the facts from cross-language illustrate that Ps C is not a special construction in modem Chinese.
R ft proves that there exists mo1in the bi-constituent construction in modern Chinese. An unified analysis mode is proposed in the dissertation, that is, the so-called "bi-constituent" is the outcome of semantic explanation instead of syntactic explanation. The "bi-constituent" is the illusion of co-reference between mo l with k m2. t hat is more, we advocate that the bi-constituent construction is not the special construction in modern Chinese, it should be grouped into Ps C. t e hold that such a treatment has many theoretical advantages.
S. ft analyses the characteristics and the individuality of Ps C in the different languages, and the similarities and differences have been interpreted in the dissertation. qhey are the result of the combination of the d eneralized Case c ilter (d Cm) and the Case o elease Pequence mrinciple (Co Pm). therefore, the dispute of the finite verb and the non-finite verb in modern Chinese is re-analyzed in the dissertation. t e believe that there exists finite verb and non-finite verb in Chinese.
