This work describes the efficiency calibration of a gamma spectroscopy waste assay system built at CIEMAT. The calibration technique was based on the assumption of a uniform distribution of the source activity in a uniform sample matrix. It was carried out using commercial software and validated by measurement of reference drums built with a set of more than 120 reference sources of 137Cs and 60Co. Agreement between measurement results and reference values was in the order of 2 %.
