The reactions of [NBu4][ReOCl4]with potentially tetradentate bis(salicylidene)amine ligands(sal2en = H2L) havebeen investigated. The bimetallic rhenium(V) complex[NBu4]2[Re2O2Cl6(L)](2a) is formed if the ligand precursorH2L contains two CH2 units bridgingthe imino groups of the sal2en fragments, whilemonomeric octahedralrhenium(V) compounds [ReOCl(L)](2b-d) are formed ifthree carbon atoms form the bridge. In contrasttosimilar technetium compounds where a symmetrical equatorial arrangementis observed, the rhenium complexexhibits an asymmetric nonplanar coordination of the ligand.
