Enhanced stress and changes to regional seismicity due to the 2015 Mw 7.8 Gorkha, Nepal, earthquake on the neighbouring segments of the Main Himalayan Thrust
We model the Coulomb stress changes imparted from the 2015 Nepal earthquake and its major aftershocks. We calculate the long-term and short-term seismic rate along the Himalayan Main Thrust fault. Our result shows good correlations between Nepal earthquake’s aftershocks and its stress-enhanced region. High seismic hazard is expected at the fault patches near the ruptured patches in the next few decades.
