TFC RO membrane is fabricated via support-free interfacial polymerization (SFIP). Membrane performance is tuned by adjusting the PA-support interfacial adhesion. Optimizing the PA-support interfacial adhesion achieved excellent NaCl rejection. The SFIP membrane shows RO performance exceeding the conventional IP membrane. SFIP reveals the structure and properties of the PA layer and PA-support interface.
