One-pot synthesis of a high performance chitosan-nickel oxyhydroxide nanocomposite for glucose fuel cell and electro-sensing applications

A novel and cost-efficient Pt-free catalyst of nano-Chitosan-NiOOH is introduced. Nano-Chitosan-NiOOH exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic activity and stability for oxygen reduction and glucose oxidation reactions. Nano-CS-NiOOH shows a very high selectivity for glucose electro-sensing. Chitosan is thought to stabilize the β-NiOOH phase and increase its surface active sites. Chitosan NH2 and OH functional groups act as active sites and enhance adsorption of active species.
