The source mechanism of the 1998 Mw 7.4 oceanic intraplate earthquake in the WPS was determined. The oceanic intraplate earthquakes in the WPS do not rupture along the pre-existing fracture features. The CFS produced by a large oceanic intraplate earthquake could affect its nearby subduction system.
