A new prediction model for determining the penetration rate for roller cone bits is developed. Lab drilling tests on sandstone and limestone are performed and results are consistent with theoretical analysis. The proposed ROP model can be used to predict the ROP and can provide useful guidance for optimizing drilling parameters.
