M37 lipase preferentially interacts with anionic phospholipid bilayers. M37-bilayer interactions do not result in activation of the lipase. M37 lipase interactions with triglyceride interfaces result in structural changes. An interfacial activation mechanism of M37 is proposed, allowing substrate access.
