Anxiety and cortical hyper-vigilance were examined in high or low spider fear groups.
Both groups engaged in image-based exposure while EEG was recorded.
The high fear group showed greater P1 amplitude and greater subjective anxiety.
Habituation and dishabituation of P1 amplitude was found in both groups.
Research examining the relationship between P1 and therapeutic outcome is needed.
