In situ bacterial adhesion and disinfection examined in a microfluidic flow cell. Kinetics of Escherichia coli O157:H7/pGFP attachment on and detachment from spinach. Spinach topography may reduce bleach rinse concentration by 1000 times in crevices. Water chemistry impacted removal and inactivation of pathogens on produce surface. Bleach disinfection processes caused cell detachment, but not necessarily cell death.
