Energy consumption of cake dewatering with vacuum filters was investigated. Air flow rates through the cakes were measured continuously. The energy consumption increases sharply after reaching a certain limit. Vacuum pumping costs can be reduced greatly by allowing a slightly wetter cake. The cake dryness was the best for thick cakes dried at high Δp.
