Australian medium rank J-cell rejects provide a substrate suitable for biogenic degradation to methane. Sewage sludge contain a sufficient diversity that, can degrade coal as well as the in-situ consortia. Bowen Basin waste coal can be partially digested to biomethane, providing a yield of ~ 0.6m3/ton reject.
