Apple MdATG3a and MdATG3b homologues share conserved domains and motifs of ATG3. Both genes are responsive to environmental stress at transcriptional level. Overexpression of either in Arabidopsis afford tolerance to multiple stresses. MdATG3b overexpression in apple callus improves growth performance under starvation.
