The non-oxidative dehydrogenation of ethanol to acetaldehyde and hydrogen takes place selectively on highly dilute NiCu alloys. Nickel is atomically dispersed in the Cu matrix, and improves both the activity and the stability of metallic copper in the ethanol dehydrogenation reaction.
