In this paper, the authors analyzed the particle size,mineral composition,major elements and trace elements, and the potential and capability of natural weathering for carbon dioxide sequestration in Jinchuan copper-nickel mine tailing. On the basis of tailing reserves and concentration of magnesium, it is estimated that about 40 Mt of carbon dioxide could be fixed by Jinchuan copper-nickel mine tailing. In addition,the concentration of Ni, Cr and Cu are about 2 494 μg/g, 3 195 μg/g and 1 949 μg/g in the tailings, hence comprehensive utilization of Ni, Cr and Cu would greatly reduce the costs of carbon dioxide sequestration.
