Reef mound community of the Upper Ordovician Lianglitag Formation at Bachu, Xinjiang is dominated by microbial-green algel. Three types of microbes are referred to Girvanella, Renalcid and Ortonella, and Renalcid includes two genera of Renalcis and Izhella. Microbial carbonates include calcified biofilms and calci microbial mats, stromatolites, and thrombolites. The reef-building function of microbial communities is interpreted to be the source of lime mud, bonds of clasts and builders of reef framework, respectively.
